How this works
- Where does this data come from?
- From the periodic transaction reports members of Congress file under the STOCK Act with the House Clerk and the Secretary of the Senate. Coldpine, an AI-based platform, parses every filing as it is published and links each trade to the member. The record here starts in January 2023.
- Why does it say no report is on file?
- Most members of Congress do not trade individual stocks, or do not have to file a periodic transaction report in a given year. Coldpine only lists members who have filed at least one report with parsed trades, so a missing name means no such report is on the public record since 2023, not that the data is incomplete. Coldpine names the sitting member for each of your seats either way, from the public congress-legislators roster, so you can see who holds it.
- How is a ZIP code matched to a district?
- Through the Census Bureau's ZIP Code Tabulation Area to congressional district relationship file. Each ZIP is assigned to the district that holds most of its area, so a ZIP that straddles a district line can be placed on the wrong side. Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, New York and North Carolina redrew their maps for the 2024 election, so for those states Coldpine shows the whole delegation instead of guessing a district.
- What does “late” mean?
- A trade disclosed more than 45 days after it happened, which is past the STOCK Act deadline. Late filings are public record and are counted here per trade.
- Are former members included?
- Yes, if they filed a report since 2023. The last-filed date on each card shows how current the record is. A district can list more than one name when a seat changed hands.
